Art Deco bronze sculpture of a bathing nude, Bain de Champagne Caron by Georges Chauvel dated 1926, with the foundry mark of Henri Rouard fondeur Paris.
Beautiful patina.

This sculpture is illustrated in:
Bronzes, sculptors and founders by H. Berman, Abage.

This elegant bronze sculpture shows a young woman dipping her toes into a bath of Champagne. Chauvel was asked to create this characteristically 1920s bronze for the celebrated Parisian perfume house Caron as an advertisement for their sumptuous fragrance Bain de Champagne or The Bath of Champagne. First conceived in 1923, the perfume was said to have been custom-made for an American millionaire who, no longer able to take his regular baths of Champagne, required a substitute. Renamed Royal Bain de Caron, the fragrance is still made today by the same perfumers. The present nude, with her cropped hairstyle and trailing folds of drapery, conveys a sense of the fashionable decadence of the 1920s.
