The flight of aviator Santos Dumont with airplane 14 Bis

Alberto Santos Dumont was a Brazilian aviator pioneer and one of the very few people to have contributed significantly to the development of aircrafts. The painting pictures the flight record of the aircraft 14 Bis, on 12 November 1906. It is the first powered airplane flight in Europe to be certified by the Aero Club de France and the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale. Santos Dumont piloted his plane before a large crowd of witnesses at the grounds of Paris’ Chateau de Bagatelle in the Bois de Boulogne for a distance of  220 meters at a height of about 5 meters.
