</span>Bronze with brown patina.<br />
France 1880. </p>
<p>A life-size nude version of this model, was exhibited at the Salon of 1872 where it not only won a first class medal but also brought Mercié the distinction of being the only artist to receive the Cross of the Legion of Honor while still a student at the French Academy in Rome. This bronze is now in the Musée d&#8217; Orsay.</p>

The three nude runners are just at the goal and intensely struggling, a most difficult theme executed with the greatest skill. <br />
This bronze is a reduction of the bronze group placed in the Luxembourg gardens in Paris. First shown in the Salon of 1886. Received a fist class medal.</p>
