					<description><![CDATA[RICHIR, Herman Jean Joseph
Belgian, 19th - 20th century.
Born 4 December 1866, in Ixelles (Brussels); died 15
March 1942.
Painter. Figures, portraits, genre scenes.
Herman Richir studied at the academies in St-Joost-ten-
Node and Brussels and subsequently served as principal of the latter. He was widely acknowledged for his society portraiture. He made his exhibition debut in Brussels in 1887 and in Paris two years later. In Paris, he became a member of the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts and exposed at the Society Salon as of 1906. He also exhibited his work in Ghent and Barcelona. He was awarded a silver medal at the Paris Exposition Universelle of 1900 and was made a Chevalier of the Order of Leopold in 1890, the year he also secured a bronze.
