Art Nouveau orientalist sculpture by Emmanuel Villanis (1858–1914), depicting a young slave girl seated on a stone bench, her hands shackled behind her back. The figure wears delicate earrings, a red turban, and a removable red skirt.
Signed E. Villanis, this 1900 creation is crafted in art metal with a cold painted patina.
A rare and evocative piece, representative of Villanis’ orientalist works, and documented in major literature including Emmanuel Villanis by Josje Hortulanus-de Mik and Les bronzes du XIXe siècle by Pierre Kjellberg. Height 26 cm.
