Art Nouveau glazed stoneware vase with 4 women's profiles and floral decorations representing the “Four Seasons” By Alphonse Gentil et François Bourdet. Designed by Firmin-Marcelet Michelet (1875-1951) Another example of this vase is in the collection of the Brighton Museum. Ref. nr. DA300050. This stoneware vase is modelled with 4 female masks and plants representing the Four Seasons. It was designed by Firmin Marcelin MIchelet and cast by Gentil & Bourdet, Billancourt around 1900. Many French designers around 1900 were influenced by the writers and artists of the symbolist Movement. On this vase the women’s faces are used to symbolize the seasons of the year and age.
